Hey craft brew snobs, this Buds for you...

Not exactly stop the presses news, not yet anyways. Bud Light has released a new member to its product line called "Bud Light Platinum", a beer that I can only assume or guess is aimed for people who enjoy craft beers. People who enjoy craft beers but want semi-cheap light beers as well?

Sign me up. I just like beer, I'm not a beer snob. Probably it's just that living through Texas summers my entire life produced an appreciation of thirst quenching, near freezing, delicious pitcher of Bud Light at happy hour.  I concede that they have little to no flavor and not just comparing it to another beer, but in general no flavor. So I say with very mild enthusiasm that I can't wait to try this.

I can't find much officially from AB on Bud Light Platinum, but there are plenty of other sites discussing its origins and intentions. Hopefully this isn't speculation and they have this from the source. Finally taking some action to compete against the growing shift toward micro brews, they have produced a light beer that has more alcohol and flavor. I doubt it's intended to be a Bud Light for beer snobs, but rather a beer that takes Bud Light to the next level hoping to keep and make a few new light beer drinkers.

As mentioned before I don't turn my nose up at sweating cans of cooler chilled light beer on a hot day at the pool so I'm looking forward to it. My immediate concern and apparently shared by others is this is basically Bud Ice repackaged, if that is the case send it back. Bud Ice hit's my gag reflex like the smell of a rundown nursing home. However so far from what I've read it's actually drinkable from what I consider to be a reputable source. Lastly I'll say I have to agree with one review I read of it, in regards to the packing and it's resemblance to Zima. The packaging and design does come off very unappealing.

Also Teexxxaass! It's coming to the Lone Star State a week earlier than the rest of the country.

  1. I saw this yesterday and thought about trying. But I thought the same thing about it being a relabeled Bud Ice... But at 6% alcohol I'll give it a go.
